My plug melted

Not a surge. Corrosion and loose connections cause heat. Inspect plugs regularly.

Melted plugs aren’t caused by surges. They come from corrosion, loose connections and overloading, which all create heat.

Treat connections as regular maintenance

Check them the way you’d check your oil. Dirt or corrosion on a connection creates heat, and heat eventually melts the plug.

Parked for a while? Turn everything off in the RV, switch off the pedestal breaker, and unplug the RV from the Watchdog.

  • Clean brass prongs: good.
  • Small dark spots: scrape them off with a fingernail. Don’t use sandpaper.
  • Orange, red or green corrosion: replace the male plug now. (30A plug, 50A plug)
